Tuesday Book Talk from Cheesecake to Vampires

On the May 22, 2012 episode of Kindle Books Money - Tuesday Book Talk - I covered Kindle books from a whole slew of topics. I also gave my opinion on how great it was to actually have access to all these great electronic books.
Be sure to listen to the broadcast if you missed it (or just wanna hear it again...wink) and if you haven't already started following the Kindle Book Money Radio Show - what are you waiting for?

The following is a list of all the books discussed on the show, click on the images or the links to get more info on any book or to download the free sample.

We began the Tuesday Book Talk with, of all things, cook books. And why not? It's awesome to be able to go get a cookbook on something you're trying to make write now and instead of subjecting your clunky laptop to the rigors of a sticky or damp kitchen, or using up more toner and paper from your printer and then having pieces of paper to deal with when you're done with your cooking exercise, with a Kindle ebook you can simply download the recipe book, find the recipe in question and carry your Kindle around the kitchen as you put your culinary delight together.

You don't even need your reading glasses, because you can always expand the size of the text if you find yourself - sans glasses - at any point in the process. And that same procedure goes for anything - from making a cheesecake, (as our first book in the list will teach you,) - to fixing the brakes on your car.

I talked a bit about how it's becoming OK to pull out your Kindle and start reading it, as people find its like you've picked up a magazine. Unlike your cell phone, which if you take it out in front of relatives and spouses and start tapping away - the Kindle is far less obtrusive - once they get used to seeing it around.

But I digress... and I'm even covering some things that weren't on the show - so, enough of that - lets get rolling on the books.

Writer Wednesdays - J Naomi Y - Two Moons of Rehnor

Our special guest for the May 9, 2012 show was author J. Naomi Y who's book series Two Moons of Rehnor has garnered a huge following of dedicated fans.

J Naomi Y talks about the series which is a modern light sci-fi fantasy with paranormal, political and spiritual elements.

The author struggled with my request (Can you read of a sample) because,
"All 1500 plus pages are told by so many different voices, I can read you a voice of one, but the voice in the next section will be an entirely person/voice character speaking with an entirely different history."

The main characters stories are told mostly through one of the many other characters. Katie from Seattle tells the story in her own voice, but the main male character - the young man with the paranormal abilities - never has his story told from his perspective.

She did read us sections from a few of these voices, and it became clear immediately that J Naomi Y is a gifted writer.

She even had numerous fans who called in to tell her how much they loved her work, and one guy even said... well tune in and listen if you haven't heard it yet.

Here's my attempt at trascribing a tiny piece of what she read on the air.
Moira: When I was a girl, I wanted to be a dancer. My parents indulged me because I was their youngest and most precious daughter. And so they arranged for a dance tutor to come to the great hall where we live and teach me to dance. I loved to dance. I was graceful as a swan, my father the Duke of Dekor said. I was lithe as a feather, my mother the Duchess said. I danced every moment that I could, gliding across the floor, leaping into the arms of my tutor, soaring into the heavens, until the day I broke my foot. After that my toe shoes were useless and my dancing ended. I was fifteen.

I transcribed that section of the broadcast just to give you a tiny idea of her voice. Let me tell you, the story gets better. The young becomes married to an older prince - who bypassed her older jealous sisters - her sisters are forced to move in with the younger sister as they prep for the wedding of become her 'ladies in waiting' but they also become lovers to her husband who's no longer interested in the young princess or their child....

When you listen in to the broadcast - which you absolutely have to do - I mean it - you'll hear the pacing and growth and style of J Naomi Y which is so unique and enjoyable. You'll understand why she's got such dedicated fans and you'll become one as well.
I enjoyed the first voice so much, I was pleased when J Naomi Y consented to read another voice, a Palace Guard, and that section shed new light on the main character, Senya.
Fascinataing Modern Sci-Fi Light Fantasy Paranormal Opera... with Spiritual and Political elements.
I know you'll be hooked.

It's About the Books

This is a summary of the books discussed on the Kindle Books Money show entitled "It's About the Books" broadcast on May 8th, 2012. May 8 - It's About the Books

I'm a big advocate of self-publishing. Why wait 20 years - facing rejection from traditional publishers - when you can your book out there and start developing a following? Kindle is the perfect place to begin your self-publishing. - Heidi White
Kindle Bestsellers:
Fifty Shades & The Hunger Games remain at the top of the Kindle Bestsellers list. This is nothing new, and if you haven't read either of these trilogies - what are you waiting for? I also want to go over some of the other top selling books on Kindle, so here's a sampling - just to wet your literary taste buds.

Psychopath (Crimescape)
Dr. Katherine Ramsland
61 Pages

Grim detailed true crime story about a wicked evil real-life Hannibal Lecter man named H. H. Holmes, a devious and cunning serial killer - you know - the worst kind - that likes to watch their victims die... It's a short book 'with pictures' - (yuck!) and if you like this sort of delving into the mind of total and complete psychopaths, the Psychopath is for you. As for me . . . I had enough with Button Boy - I guess, I'm too gentle for most horror. On the other hand - evil horrible people are part of life... so, learning about how they tick isn't a waste of time - even if you have to vomit once or twice while reading this. This was also featured as an advert one day on the Kindle screen saver - which could explain how it was in the Top 10 Kindle paid Bestsellers on May 8th and no where to be seen within the Top 100 ten days later.

The Long Way Home
Karen McQuestion
337 Pages
Four women bound by chance take the trip of a lifetime in Karen McQuestion's fifth novel The Long Way Home.
I love a good road trip story, and this one has something for everyone. Four women from Wisconsin, Marnie, Laverne, Rita and Jazzy end up on the road together, headed to Las Vegas to reunite Marnie with Troy, Troy, the boy she raised as her own—and who she's been separated from since her boyfriend's death. Jazzy is bubblly and quirky and hears voices of the dead and the other women, all thrown together on this road trip by a chance meeting travel together in the humorous and heartwarming and sometimes bitersweet journey in an effort to change their lives with something special in store for each woman.

Deadlocked: A Sookie Stackhouse Novel
Charlaine Harris
336 Pages

Great authors don't always get good reviews...396 Customer reviews and average review is 2.5 stars - not good, not good at all.Review that sums it up? "meh!" Twenty years on the same character and plot? I guess I'd run out of creative juice too.

The Marriage Bargain (Marriage to a Billionaire)
Jennifer Probst
212 Pages
While I do belly-ache on the broadcast about how 'sick' I am of the constant parade of fricken 'billionaire' male heros in so many romances, this story still has some elements to recommend it. For one, the heroine, Alexa Maria McKenzie, is a bookstore owner - so, she can't be half bad... and she casts a love spell - so, that's kind of cool. So, the fact that she conjures up a man who is now all powerful... but had once before shattered her heart - well - that's just how these kinda romances roll. A classic tale of man who has to marry to keep his fortune and woman who agrees to save her ass and the - oh, don't tell me your shocked by this - and the inevitable falling in love - despite best-laid plans not to let that happen. (I hope the sex is good...probably is, considering how well this book is selling.)

The Felig Chronicles
Interracial romance involving the battle against human destroying invisible aliens
122 Pages

Something Else Wicked (Felig Chronicles)
107 Pages

On Air Guest....Miss P. J. Dean called into our show and shared about her quest to get published.
"I write romances, but when I took my story to regular publishers they said my story was 'too out there.' Combining aliens and interracial romance didn't fit into their narrow romance formulas. However, I went to Canada and found a publisher that was willing to look at and eventually publish my Felig Chronicle books, so my advice to other writers is Don't Give Up."
The Last Boyfriend: Book Two of the Ins BoonsBoro Trilogy
335 pages

A new novel of a shared past, a fresh start, and a lifetime of love. Nora Roberts can spin a story and always leaves her reader satisfied. This story about brothers hoping to get a Bed and Breakfast up and running has everything you need for a pleasurable relaxing fun read.
The Innocent
David Baldacci
433 Pages
Classic tale of a hitman who suddenly can't pull the trigger... when facing his most innocent target, a wayward teenage gir. It's really a testiment to a good writer's story telling skills to have us rooting for a man who was once a stone-cold assassin, when we witness the growth of a heart. Of course, one doesn't just decide not to finish a job without facing consequences, and this book is a thrill ride as the former hitman struggles to keep the girl and himself alive.

11th Hour (Women's Murder Club), James Patterson
$14.99, 401 Pages

The Book Case (Kindle Single), Nelson DeMille

The Kindle Books on Kindle Publishing Show

Today's show is going to be a quick one and I'm even putting in the content matter ahead of time.

There are plenty of expensive and not so expensive courses available out there- but before we start exploring those, never forget that there is a wealth of information for as little as .99 cents sometimes right here on your Kindle.

First KBM Anything Goes Show Features Three Writers

On our first Kindle Books Money "Anything Goes" Thursday show, we were able to feature three indie authors.

Our first guest was Anthea Carson, author of The Dark Lake. Anthea brought me up to speed with some tutoring on the basics of existensialism, and read a paragraph or two from her fascinating novella about a woman who finds herself forced to keep coming back to the dark lake while she tries to uncover the secret of her past.

Next, we spoke with "Jeffrey," author of Marching Backwards to March; The Tale of Love, which chronicles love and the building of a relationship in reverse order. It's a dreamy backwards glance into the reality of relationships, proving everything's possible for dreamers.

Finally, we spoke to one of the co-authors of the Poetry anthology, Soul Journey: The Road Less Travelled, Paul Day. He read some of the works from that book, including one from his co-author Magella Callaghan.

Featured Author of the Week - Randy Attwood

Today we had a fabulous show with featured author Randy Attwood.

We discussed his latest book for the Amazon Kindle,Crazy About You.

Randy talks about this book, where he draws on his own experience as an Asylum brat growing up on the grounds of mental institutions and hospitals. Brad, a high school student, and son of the Larned State Hospital dentist, get's involved in the life of a disturbed schizophrenic teen named Suzanne. One of the inmates, who committed a horrible crime as a minor, has been living out his life in institutions - in the separate wings just for the criminally insane. But, Brad's father has done the man's dental work - and as far as he can tell, the guy is completely normal.
But, when a brutal murder takes place in the town, everyone assumes it was someone at the institution.
So, the story covers the events of that week - which include Brad's prom, more interaction with Suzanne the schizo and the group of employees who run a theft ring and threaten to lock Brad up with the dangerous wacko who killed his own family. Don't miss it!

Randy Attwood, also shared his writing career stories, and talked about some of his other books, available on Amazon Kindle, including a distopia novel called Rabbletown: Life in These United Christian States of Holy America about life in 2084 when the Religious Right run the world, and 41st Sermon, the story of an Episcopalian priest who, while alone on a one week fishing retreat, succumbs to sin after drinking and visiting the local strip club. Soon he's having sex with a thrill-seeking parishioner, who's real identity turns out to be .... well, I don't want to spoil it.

All of Randy's current titles on Amazon can be found at his author's page here: Randy Attwood Author Page

Money Mondays and Technical Glitch Tuesday's Done

Let's recap the shows so far this week. Money Monday's and Tuesday's Open show both suffered from technical issues, but at the end of the day - each show finally had a good result - once the live callers got access.

Monday Dave Lynch couldn't make it, due to technical issues on his end, so David Vallieras stepped in and did a fantastic job helping me talk about the business & money making side of digital publishing. David was a fount of information, and I look forward to having him on the show again.

You can listen to the archive links here:

Today's Tuesday show had the worst of the technical glitches so far.
